Musings on a McCain Candidacy - Campaign 2008

Some fellow POWs and fighter pilots have a thing or two to say about John McCain. McCain is NOT the person we want to have in the White House. I was about to say "representing us", but then John doesn't really represent anyone but the illegal aliens. We are merely an inconvenience on his way to the presidency.

Also see more links below the VDare.com article. This VDare article was cross posted here last year and is being reposted now, January 17, 2008.

McCain Musings On Memorial Day Weekend

By Joe Guzzardi

When the “John McCain for President, 2008” campaign shifts into high gear, we’ll be hearing ad nauseum about the candidate’s heroism, character and patriotism.

Too bad none of it is true. [NO HOTLINKING]

America could use a heroic figure with a high moral code and a true love of country. But McCain is far from that man.

When you do a simple analysis of McCain’s personal and professional life and lay it out over thirty years, his picture is ugly.

Think of my column as a review of McCain low points that you will be hearing less about---at least from the GOP—as the countdown to the 2008 presidential primaries begins.

Heroism

McCain is a sore point among other U.S. POWs. Most resent the preferential medical treatment McCain received after he was shot down in 1967 and revealed to the North Vietnamese Army that his father, Admiral John McCain, Jr., commanded all U.S. forces in Europe and was soon-to-be commander of all forces in the Pacific, including Vietnam.

From the moment the NVA knew who the injured McCain’s father was, he became a “special patient.” The NVA hoped to eventually squeeze valuable information out of McCain.

And his fellow POWs remained angry with McCain when, in 1992 as a member of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, he demanded a U.S. Justice Department investigation into Vietnam veteran activists and their organizations.

McCain called the organized POW’s:

The most craven, most cynical and most despicable human beings to ever run a scam.

McCain got his wish. The DOJ investigated and found no reason to charge the POW/MIA organizations with any wrongdoing. [Sen. McCain Wants To Be President By Ted Sampley, U.S. Veteran Dispatch, January-February 1997 Issue]

Character

In 1980, McCain divorced his wife Carol, who had been disfigured in an automobile accident while he imprisoned. One month later, McCain remarried Cindy Lou Hensley, heiress to Phoenix-based Hensley & Co., the nation's second-largest Anheuser-Busch distributor.

His new trophy wife’s family money launched McCain into politics.

Then, ten years after his ugly divorce, McCain was fingered as one of the Keating Five—a group of five Senators investigated on ethics charges. The five met with Federal Home Loan Bank chairman Ed Grey allegedly to influence the FHLB to delay seizing the assets of soon-to-be convicted racketeer Charles Keating’s struggling (and eventually bankrupt) Lincoln Savings and Loan.

Although McCain was never indicted, an investigation revealed that his Congressional and Senate campaigns had been financed in part by donations from Keating. Additionally, McCain took a total of nine family trips paid for by Keating including three to the banker’s villa in the Bahamas.

The federal bail out of Lincoln cost taxpayers $2.6 billion.

Patriotism

Now McCain has become one of the authors of the least patriotic bill in American history, S. 2611, which the U.S. Senate voted on May 25th. [2006]

Unable to refrain from insulting Americans worried about the devastating impact of S. 2611, McCain immediately after the vote said:

“Why not say to those undocumented workers who are working the jobs that the rest of us refuse, 'come out from the shadows.'”

Amazing—three lies in one sentence: “undocumented workers,” “jobs that the rest of us refuse,” and “come out of the shadows.”

And another McCain lie:

In poll after poll after poll, Americans support earned citizenship and a comprehensive solution” [Immigration Foreshadows 2008 GOP Contest, by Liz Sidoti, Associated Press, May 25, 2006]

The truth, to which McCain is averse, is that no polls indicate anything of the kind. Given a neutral choice that avoids the words “amnesty” and “illegal alien,” voters chose the House approach, HR 4437, to S. 2611 by 2-1.

(Read Steve Sailer’s excellent column on polls here.)

In all, McCain’s record is dismal.

Given McCain’s resume, it’s fair to ask whom he represents and where we can see evidence of his principles at work.

McCain does not represent:

  • Americans who adhere to family values

  • Scrupulous businessmen, investors and politicians who would never consider taking nine junkets funded by a special interest donor.

  • Fellow Navy officers.

I asked Henry Lenoir for insight into McCain’s real self.  Lenoir is the ex-fighter pilot who wrote to VDARE.COM that McCain would be a “disaster” as president.

Said Lenoir:

McCain’s Hanoi experiences provide effective cover for his political ambitions. People don’t see that there isn’t much behind the image.  People also assume, based on his Vietnam service and his party affiliation, that he is a red-blooded American patriot.  As for me, I wonder if he and President Bush share a Mexican paymaster.”

McCain has consistently and knowingly done the wrong thing to those closest to him…his family, his constituents and his war buddies.

And he has knowingly and without fail acted in the best interests of only one person…Senator John McCain.

Of the GOP candidates, only Duncan Hunter is acceptable on all counts. Ron Paul and Fred Thompson are next in line by these ratings. The Huckster-Huckabee is a real snake in the grass. He's using religion to rope in gullible Christian Conservatives. Election year promises will mean as little to him as they do to a Clinton or George H.W. Bush ("Read My Lips..."). Mitt Romney rates better than the Huckster. If it came down to a vote for the Huckster or the Harpy (Hillary), I think I would look at a third party vote. Either way, Huckster or Harpy, illegals will get legalized. The Huckster would do it as his "christian" duty. The Harpy would do it for the votes.

The ratings of the socialist Dems should be no surprize at all. Elect a socialist Democrat and get illegal aliens as the new citizens, voters, and a new entitlement class.

My Choice...

Only Duncan Hunter has talked the talk and walked the walk of a true conservative candidate for president.

Fred is talking tough on immigration

Cross posted from Vdare.com

Fred Thompson Talks Tough?

by Randall Burns

Fred Thompson has been trying to gain some momentum in the presidential campaign by talking tough on the topic of immigration. Basically he's offering to tighten up immigration enforcement-and even tighten chain migration a bit in return for expanded legal immigration (particularly in the areas catered to by programs like H-1b). This is all in line with his previous record. (Al Gore's immigration rating as a Senator from Tennessee was better than Thompson's.)What has changed mainly is he's trying to make it sound better to the folks that like Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo.

The basic problem is that Thompson's policies are nowhere near the level of enforcement you need to handle a situation where the profits from illegal immigration are huge for employers. Thompson's policies would barely dent the lowering of US wages and job quality associated with recent immigration policies (and might not even do that if legal immigration were expanded enough). Thompson also doesn't handle the potential for increased US immigration enforcement to destabilize Mexico–which has become rather dependent on remittances.

I'm glad to see that Thompson is at least paying attention to the immigration issue–but a lot more work is needed before there will be something on the table the bulk of Americans would recognize as a solution.

Fred is talking the talk of a true conservative, of a conservative's concern for citizens and how they are impacted by illegal immigration. He still believes in mass immigration and wants to get whole new classes of green cards for huge numbers of immigrants. He wants to convert the numbers crossing the border to legal immigrants with no restrictions on numbers.

Keith Butler: The official word on amnesty and illegal immigration

Here is a little "Didja Know" info: Last spring and early summer, when Keith was running for the senate candidate position to oppose Debbie Stabenow, I was a Butler supporter. I was asked by the people of the other candidate campaigns to sign on with them. I became aware of the "path to citizenship" issue from Scott Greenlee, Keith's campaign staff representative and talking head in Kent County.

Here is a statement from Keith Butler that was forwarded to me concerning the "path to citizenship":

From: Keith Butler [mailto:butlerkeith@xxxxxxx.com]

Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2007 10:12 PM

First he is misrepresenting my position. I do not support amnesty. I withdrew from the McCain campaign in part because of it. I handed out thousands of copies of my book "Reviving the American Spirit" to our delegates,I have an entire chapter on this. Chapter five to be exact. On page 74 I say that Illegal immigration is a grave threat to our country. On page 79 I say that the amnesty approach has been tried in the past and it did not work. At no time have I supported. I did not support McCain bill.

I am glad to see that Keith has changed his spots. Misrepresenting? I wish I had archived his senate campaign web page last summer where he was for a path to citizenship for those entrenched illegals. But if he says he no longer supports this position, that is cool! I will have to find a book store that carries his book to see specifically what he has to say in that chapter.

No problem... I will back off.

The Fred Factor, Talking the Talk

Can Fred "Talk the Talk and Walk the Walk" of the conservative savior of the party? First, he needs to give us a No Bullshit explanation of his stand on illegal aliens!

Ask yourself, "Why would a candidate surround him/herself with staffers known for positions of open borders/amnesty, if the candidate didn't hold those same opinions?"

I see hundreds of hits in my server log looking for my Fred4Prez wanted poster... I have pulled it until Fred makes chrystal clear his positions on the border, immigration, and the disposition of millions of invaders in occupied America. If he is indeed of the camp supporting some form of amnesty (allowing illegals to stay and eventually apply for citizenship) then he will never get a nod from me. His campaign staff composition appears to be of the amnesty appeaser slant... he has Bush staffers to spin his position, and he brought in Spencer Abraham, a noted proponent of open borders and amnesty. The Bushie powered spin machine will make him sound like a tough border type and say that he is against amnesty just like Bush and McCain.

Until he says in clear unambiguous words his position against illegals, Fred will not get support from me! Nothing else he stands for will be worth a damn if he is all for giving it away to an invasion force from the south. Our current president is already doing this. We can nor stand another 4 years of this policy.

Mitt Romney: Talking the talk...

...of a conservative but can he walk the conservative walk... as the former governor of a nationally recognized socialist paradise, the home of socialist Democrat senators Kennedy and Kerry.

Here is text of an email I just received from Townhall.com.

Change is on its way to Washington. Let’s make it conservative change.

All across America, people are sick of beltway bickering and partisan politics. I’ve had more than my fill too. This country can face any challenge and overcome any foe – but only if we work together to get things done.

As President, I will offer innovative solutions to the challenges facing our country. I will focus my efforts on making America stronger – starting with a strong military, a strong economy and strong families.

We face a new generation of challenges; one of the greatest is keeping our nation safe. Military strength is our best deterrent. By making us stronger, Ronald Reagan made us safer. This is what I want to do. The safety of our country just isn’t something that we can play politics with.

Each year, as Governor, I filed a balanced budget without raising taxes. As President I will stop the Federal government’s borrowing and spending binge. At the same time we have to make sure that taxes are kept low and that the tax code is simplified. This is the only way to grow our economy and enhance our competitiveness.

With a strong military protecting our interests abroad we also need to look out for our families at home. America’s families underpin America’s strength. I have fought to preserve traditional marriage – and will continue to do so – because I know that America’s traditional culture and values lie at the heart of what makes us such a successful nation and society.

These aren’t the only issues. There’s been a lot of talk recently about illegal immigration and securing our borders. My position is clear. We must secure the borders, implement an enforceable employment verification system for non-citizens, and create no special privilege or pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally. Immigration reform must encourage legal immigration and treat people with dignity – while at the same time strengthening respect for the rule of law and protecting our national security. The first step has to be to enforce the law as it is. As president, I will cut back federal funds to cities that provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants.

I hope you share these priorities – and I hope you’ll consider joining me, right here, as we bring conservative change to Washington. The alternative is unthinkable – high taxes, half-hearted support of our troops and Hillary-style healthcare.

Let’s stand for real conservative change. I’ll need your help to get this done.

Many thanks,
