Election 2008 - The Border Fence - Who is FOR and AGAINST border security

This should be an important issue this election year 2008... who is for securing our borders and who is against. No surprize, the Democrats are open/no borders traitors with few exceptions (and some of these exceptions will really floor you).

In 2007, the House of Representatives voted to repeal and defund the border fence on nearly a straight party-line vote, Democrats FOR defunding, Republicans AGAINST. The amendment to defund and repeal was tucked into the appropriations legislation to conceal it.

A YEA vote is a vote to pass the legislation defunding the fence (AGAINST Border Security).

A NAY vote is a vote against the legislation which defunds the fence (FOR Border Security).

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles on Monday rejected Medellin's request for a reprieve. Medellin, 33, is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. CDT today.

We don’t care where you’re from. If you commit a despicable crime like this in Texas, you’ll face the ultimate penalty under our laws."

"Jose Medellin is nothing more than a poster boy for the death penalty," said Jennifer’s father, Randy Ertman, who now lives in a country residence near Somerville with Sandra, his wife of more than 30 years. "He’s been on Death Row longer than Jennifer was alive."

The execution is scheduled for after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Medellin, 33, has declined the customary last meal and nearly all media requests for interviews, said Michelle Lyons, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

After the fight was over, the teenagers were walking along a set of nearby railroad tracks when they passed two young girls, 14-year-old Jennifer Ertman and 16-year-old Elizabeth Peña. The boys grabbed them; the two girls were raped multiple times, strangled, and left for dead.

Hanging should still be available for executing criminals!

Health Care For Illegals - Part and Parcel of Obama and McCain Amnesty Dreams

Remember back to the big panderfests of the 2006-2007 legislative years when our elected representatives were clawing and scratching to see who could grovel the lowest before the illegals. Senate Bill 2611 was one of the results. We have the list of all those who voted for it. Obama and McCain are on the list. Both voted to give social security to illegals. The votes are part of public record. Obama and McCain are on record voting to give fake background checks to illegals, then allowing them to stay with benefits without having to wait for citizenship.

On this topic when you point a finger at one candidate, you must include the other.

Democrats' single most important domestic proposal — universal health insurance — may blow up in Barack Obama's face when voters are exposed to the deadly details.

Obama has said, proudly and often, "I am going to give health insurance to 47 million Americans who are now without coverage." But are they "Americans?"

That 47 million statistic includes illegal immigrants, who virtually all lack insurance. In fact, about one in four of those lacking insurance is here illegally.

Care for illegals is the biggest unmet medical need in our nation, and Obama's program targets it squarely. But do we really want to give them federally paid coverage equal to what US senators get, as Obama proposes? (...and as McCain also hopes? He is letting Obama be the lightning rod, but he too holds this as a fervent desire.)

Obama wants to CHANGE our language to Spanish

Change, change, change, change, change, change, change...... gets a little tired hearing the Obama buzzword when you look at what he wants to change.

The latest revelation of Obama's changing desires is our national common language, English. He wants it to be Spanish. (note: this is a common trait with McCain and many of the pandering a-holes in congress who are being revealed as New Deal Republican Neo-Democrats).

Obama Tells American Kids to Learn Spanish

I hope the American public is watching. For months, Barack Obama was a blank slate. The only thing people knew about him was that he gave a good speech and that he wanted "change." This apparently was enough to garner him the Democratic presidential nomination. (That should be a clue to most Americans NOT to vote for him.) But now, with no help from the media, the real Barack Obama is starting to appear.

The media won't write stories about what he says, but they don't need to. With today's technology, we can see for ourselves, and this latest incident is a doozy! Our education system is crazy enough with all these liberal, feel-good programs. Forget adding, subtracting, spelling, and grammar. Now, despite the fact that the rest of the world is learning English, he says that American kids should learn Spanish? What? Learn Spanish? Yes, and it shows just how out of touch and far left Obama is. We need a president who will put America first, not push for our culture to be forgotten.

We need to make sure our kids can speak Spanish? Why? That is the question. Oh, and I have the answer. It's because the liberals [ed: this includes soft liberals like McCain and his New Deal Republican Neo-Democrats] are quite happy seeing millions of illegal aliens pour across our border and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it. Rather than solve the problem of illegal immigration by enforcing laws and securing our border (after all, if we did that, liberals would call us racists), the far left would rather Americans simply learn Spanish. That is their solution to the problem.

And it is definitely becoming more and more of a problem. Example... during these very nice summer months, my kids love to go swimming with me at our neighborhood pool. We go in the late morning and spend an hour or two there. Afterward, we come home for lunch. On some days, we go out, and they love it when we get sandwiches at Subway. Getting the sandwiches, however, has become more and more of an ordeal. In fact, the last time we went, it took forever simply because I couldn't understand the attendant, and the attendant couldn't understand me.

"I'll have a six-inch ham sandwich on wheat with lettuce and tomato..." All I got was a blank stare. I repeated the order, with my daughter looking on. The lady finally grabbed the wheat bread and then selected turkey. "No... I said ham."

They are not vaccinated and immunized like you have been since birth and carry diseases across the border such as tuberculosis, whooping cough, etc. All the little beasties that you thought were eradicated in this country are BAAAACK! Now, this being a Subway restaurant in AMERICA, one would think that I could place my order in English. Wrong. This must be a Barack Obama Subway restaurant, and the only way to place an order is to do it in Spanish. Hmmm... I guess I should thank Obama for his speech. What he was trying to get across was the idea that we should teach our kids Spanish just so we can order a sandwich at an American restaurant. Thanks Obama for looking out for me!

Sarcasm aside, Barack Obama continues to show that he is not ready for the presidency, and more importantly, America is not ready for him. Our kids should not be told to learn Spanish. Our kids should be told to learn English and math and science, so they can become contributing American citizens. Obama's example in his speech is that Americans sound silly when they go to France because they can only say a simple phrase. What's his point? Is he saying that we should all learn French for that day that we spend thousands of dollars to travel to France?

English has become the language of international business, commerce, science, and technology. Other nations learn English, because English is the "universal" language in which things get done. Only in America (an English-speaking country) would left-wing Barack Obama tell Americans that their kids should learn Spanish.

McCain and Obama shared dreams = amnesty and other liberal issues

McCain has decided to forego support of conservatives as we would polute the purity of his Republican Neo-Democrats, the support coalition that has fueled his campaign to be the figurehead of the ex-GOP, now RND.

On the other hand, The DNC has issued a call to their party weedroots faithfull to help write the party platform. There are some 600 or so platform committees across the country. Does anyone seriously believe that the Socialist Democrats will actually listen to Joe Sixpack about what he wants? Rush Limbaugh has just issued new orders for Operation Chaos operatives to join the fun.

This truly is a strange campaign year. McCain has done all in his power to push away conservatives including the religious right. Obama, supporter of homosexuality and abortion, is trying to convince Christians that he is also a Christian and wants them to vote for him. Unfortunately there are a sizable number of Christians that are politically ignorant sheeples who do not look past the surface appearance. They will vote for Obama because Rev. Pfleger, the pro-abortion Catholic priest of the Chicago diocese's Saint Sabina RCC, and other liberal pseudo-Christian reverends says to vote this way. The Cardinal of Chicago turns a blind eye to most of this activity in his backyard.

Amnesty for criminal border jumpers, drug dealers and mules, and terrorist OTMs is what John McCain scrambled, scratched and fought to achieve during the 2006 and 2007 legislative years standing hip to hip with Senator Kennedy. McCain and Obama passed the terrorist bill of rights with affirmative votes from Senators Clinton and Lieberman (and a majority of Socialist Democrat senators), which would fit in with a general amnesty for all illegals, if enacted. McCain and Obama voted to give away social security (which is already going broke) to illegals. McCain is travelling the same road with Kennedy, Feingold, and other Socialist Democrats. McCain is the secret weapon of the socialist Democrats in this election. McCain holds hands with Algore in his quest for global dominion, forcing everyone to start riding bicycles so the elites can have all the fuel for their jets. Obama is a YES MAN for this issue. If elected, McCain will take over the global warming issue as his own. Fortunately, McCain is so old that he cant ride that horse for many years without a pact with the devil.

Senator Obama is right in there trying to show how socialist he is, voting for everything pushed his way by the Socialist Democrat party. He wants to remind everyone of his street agitator/organizer roots in Chicago. In the Illinois legislature, he was preparing for higher office, voting "present" over 70% of the time rather than leave a back trail to look at. Senator Obama is 100% pro-abortion and is lauded for this by the National Abortion Rights Action League.

That is, for what change is left in your pockets...

Will we reward either Obama or McCain? Apparently the answer is YES.

Over the past two years (2006-2007) we have seen a variety of supposedly rock solid Republicans come out of the closet on the issue of softening the immigration laws, giving some form of amnesty to illegal alien border jumpers and those who have overstayed visas that expired. They want unrestricted immigration in the form of multi-millions of easily gained green cards which will morph over time into permanent residency papers, followed by easy fast track citizenship to get them into the voting booth.

It turns out that approximately half the Republicans in the US Senate and virtually ALL the Democrat senators are belly crawling amnesty panderers.

We have been recruiting the best and brightest legal immigrants but what the politicians want is the lowest, uneducated, disease carrying peons that Mexico is more than willing to ship to us, their welfare class.

This year, our choice (Republican or Democrat) is a LOSE-LOSE proposition, The Lesser of Two Equal Evils.

The choice is between a pair of "Boll Weevils". [This is a little play on words. There is a band called The Presidents of the United States that did a song "Boll Weevil"]

When the choice is so equally bad that we have to compare down the laundry lists, what can we do?

But obeying the law is not enough protection any more, since drunk-driving illegal aliens are making the roads a far more hazardous place. The accused, illegal alien Alfredo Ramos, was apparently so blotto that he doesn’t even remember the accident.

Afterward, [Ramos] told him he had no memory of the crash. He learned from authorities that he had killed two people, his brother said.

Ramos, who was born in Mexico of Guatemalan parents, has been in the United States for about seven years.

Ramos had a prior DUI conviction in Chesapeake this year, so if Rep. Sue Myrick's Scott Gardner Act had been law, he would have been immediately deported for being a drunk-driving illegal alien. The legislation, originally written in 2005, has been resubmitted in this Congress as HR1355 .

The girls were very close friends, known to finish each other's sentences. Tessa's mom Colette called the two “inseparable.” They were outgoing, fun-loving and had many friends. It’s a terrible tragedy that their lives ended so young, and that the accident could have been prevented if Washington were doing its job of maintaining secure borders.

This is why I will not support or vote for John McCain. Actually, we are royally screwed this election unless a writein can succeed or we can pull out a miracle at the Republican convention and oust Liberal John. All three of the stooges (Moebama, HilLarry, CurleyCain) are liberal and pro-amnesty.

There seems to be a complete disconnect between Senators in DC and the working citizens of the USA. This is nothing new though because the three remaining presidential candidates, the Three Stooges (Moebama, HilLarry, and CurleyCain), are all supreme panderers to the illegal alien component of all the immigrants that they want to flood the country with. The dearest wish of all these politicians is to kick all current workers out of their jobs and replace them with no-wage/low wage workers/slaves. Sounds a bit facetious but it is true nonetheless. They will deny it with words but will vote for it in committee and on the senate floor.

Grant a three-year work visa followed by a permanent greencard to all illegal aliens who have been working as shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders.

Grant a five-year work visa to the estimated 1.3 million illegal aliens working in other agricultural jobs -- plus all of their families. There is no instruction on what happens after the five years.

Grant a tripling of the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agricultural seasonal workers.

Grant industries an extra 218,000 additional permanent green cards for skilled foreign workers.

Friends, perhaps you are thinking what I'm thinking: Don't these Senators know that we are in an economic recession, or close to it? Don't they know that unemployment rates have been going up and that industries across the country are shedding both skilled and unskilled jobs?

If ever you doubted that U.S. Senators live lives disconnected from ordinary Americans, you could see it Thursday as 17 of them fell all over themselves to drastically increase the number of foreign workers allowed to hold U.S. jobs!

RIDICULOUS CLAIMS ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF FOOD WITHOUT AN AMNESTY

Senators Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), Larry Craig (R-Idaho) and Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) led the way to protect our economy from having to figure out ways to hire some of the 14 million-plus American workers who are trying to find a job but can't.

Especially interesting is their claim that we will fail to harvest crops and feed the world this year without an amnesty for illegal aliens. They made the same claim in each of the last four years. Each time that we beat back the amnesty, the harvests still happened! How many times does Feinstein have to cry wolf (or rotting crops) before people stop paying attention?

Of course, the outlaw businesses that scream for illegal aliens do have more to fear this year because various enforcement policies (federal, state and local) are beginning to drive more and more illegal aliens home.

What we have to constantly remind everybody, though, is that each of these outlaw growers at any time can come clean, go straight and become a legal, patriotic member of the business community by importing any needed foreign ag workers through the H-2A temporary worker program. There is no limit on how many they can import as long as they pay them decently and ensure that they go home.

The North Carolina Growers Association has used the H-2A visa program for years and opposes all efforts at amnesty for illegal alien ag workers. If the program works fine for North Carolina farmers, why do farmers in other part of the country insist that only illegal aliens will fit the bill?

THE VERY LOW CRITERIA FOR QUALIFYING FOR AN AG AMNESTY

Rosemary says you don't have to have spent much time in the fields to qualify for Feinstein and Craig's amnesty.

You only have to meet ONE of the following three criteria to get the amnesty:

Earned $7,000 working in agriculture during the 2004-2007 period.

Or worked 863 hours in agriculture during the 2004-2007 period.

Or worked at least a little bit in agriculture on 150 different days during the 2004-2007 period.

That amounts to an average of $1,750 per year ...

... or 216 hours per year (the equivalent of 4 hours per week) ...

... or parts of 37 days per year.

DO THEY THINK THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND THAT WE COULD POSSIBLY ACCEPT THAT ILLEGAL ALIENS WORKING THAT LITTLE IN AGRICULTURE ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF AGRI-BUSINESS IN AMERICA!!!!!!

The answer is that they really hope we are that stupid or just incredibly unfocused. All the right-wing business lobbyists, leftist organizations, religious groups and news media who tried to force the amnesty last year are cheering this thing on.

We beat them last year because the American people FOCUSED for a few weeks and told the U.S. Senators who is their boss.

Will you please do everything you can to enlist a small army in your community to fight this?

This is a welcome development. Islam’s women-hating customs are not accepted as legally binding in the state of Maryland, at least.

Saying “I divorce thee” three times, as men in Muslim countries have been able to do for centuries when leaving their wives, is not enough if you’re a resident of Maryland, the state’s highest court ruled yesterday.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeals rejected a Pakistani man’s argument that his invocation of the Islamic talaq, under which a marriage is dissolved simply by the husband’s say-so, allowed him to part with his wife of more than 20 years and deny her a share of his $2 million estate.

Bush wants to stop the state of Texas from executing an illegal alien gang member [a member of the Bush Cartel?] who was convicted of the rape and murder of two teenage girls (ages 14 and 16). The Bush contention is that it violates a Geneva Convention and he wants to use this to trump and over rule US Courts. The US Supreme Court sided with the Texas Courts. Court backs Texas in dispute with Bush

WASHINGTON — Texas can ignore President Bush and an international court in refusing to reopen the case of a Mexican on death row for rape and murder, the Supreme Court said Tuesday.

The court said Bush exceeded his authority when he tried to intervene on behalf of Jose Ernesto Medellin, facing the death penalty for killing two teenagers nearly 15 years ago.

By a 6-3 vote, the court said Texas does not have to give a new hearing to death row prisoner Jose Ernesto Medellin, a former Houston gang member who is now 33.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Bush was disappointed with the decision and is now reviewing it to see how it might impact international relations.

A Texas prosecutor whose office won a conviction against Medellin said she would ask for an execution date to be set as soon as the high court resolves a separate case over a challenge to lethal injection procedures. The court also could dispose of the cases of seven other Mexicans on death row in Texas as early as Monday.

Chief Justice Roberts, in the unfamiliar role of limiting presidential power, said the international court decision cannot be forced upon the states.

The president may not "establish binding rules of decision that pre-empt contrary state law," Roberts said. "Neither does the treaty, by itself, require individual states to take action", he said.

Breyer, joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter, said the international court judgment should be enforced. [ed: Ever the good little globalist socialists, they seek ways to undermine US Law and put us under international rule on the road to the socializing of America.]

Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz, who argued the state's case at the high court, said the decision "categorically prohibits foreign courts from undermining American sovereignty and independence."

On reading George Bush's discourse to the New York Economic Club last week, Cicero's insight came to mind: "To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child."

With Iraq entering its sixth year, the dollar sinking to peso levels, the economy careening into recession, and 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens roosting here, Bush alerted us to what really worries him:

"I'm troubled by isolationism and protectionism ... (and) another 'ism,' and that's nativism. And that's what happened throughout our history. And probably the most grim reminder of what can happen to America during periods of isolationism and protectionism is what happened in the late -- in the '30s, when we had this America First policy and Smoot-Hawley. And look where it got us."

[ed: It really keeps him awake nights trying to dream up a scheme to legalize all those illegal aliens he has employed and promised citizenship back at the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas. So he has to belittle patriotic citizens for wanting to remove the hoard of invaders that are occupying US territory and taking jobs that citizens would do in factories making skids and other industrial work that are currently occupied by illegal workers. McCain has taken over the Bush dream and wants to make amnesty HIS legacy. McCain also wants to continue to beat down the push for a full acounting of the MIAs of Vietnam. John Kerry destroyed the documents of live sightings that were in government hands and McCain approved.]

Let us try to sort out this dog's breakfast.

First, America was never isolationist. From its birth, the republic was a great trading nation with ties to the world. True, in 1935, 1936 and 1937, a Democratic Congress passed and FDR signed neutrality acts to keep us out of the Italo-Abyssinian and Spanish civil wars. And FDR did say, "We are not isolationist except insofar as we seek to isolate ourselves completely from war." But how did staying out of Abyssinia and Spain hurt America?

As for Smoot-Hawley, it was a tariff enacted in June 1930, nine months after the Crash of 1929, which occurred, as Milton Friedman won a Nobel Prize for proving, when the stock market bubble, caused by the Fed's easy money policy, burst. Smoot-Hawley had nothing to do with a Depression that began in 1929 and lasted through FDR's first two terms. This is a liberal myth, probably taught to Mr. Bush by New Deal Democrats at the Milton Academy.

America First was an organization of 800,000 anti-interventionists formed at Yale in 1940 by patriots like Gerald Ford, Potter Stewart and Sargent Shriver, backed by John F. Kennedy, to check FDR's drive to war. Herbert Hoover supported it, and its greatest spokesman was the Lone Eagle, Charles Lindbergh.

But America First did not make policy. FDR did. And it was FDR who, by cutting off Japan's oil in July 1941, rebuffing Prince Konoye's offer to meet him in the Pacific or Alaska and issuing a virtual ultimatum on Nov. 26, 1941 -- to get out of China -- that propelled Japan to its fatal decision to attack Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7.

Easter Question: Which Church Is The Top Treason Lobbyist?

No matter which church you may attend on Easter Sunday, you stand a high probability of hearing a plea for "justice for immigrants"that’s a given. And you’ll also be called upon from the pulpit to, against all logic, embrace more immigration.

[ed: My parish has a Vietnamese priest. During our Easter services, he never once said a word that could be misinterpreted towards immigration. He was a LEGAL immigrant before he entered the seminary here in the USA.]

Accordingly, earlier this week I set out to determine which major religious denomination, pound for pound, has the worst pro-immigration record-members of the Treason Lobby, as we call it here at VDARE.COM. I limited my search to Roman Catholic as well as the Lutheran and Methodist Churches.

My secondary task was to find an official who represents one of those religions but who is also an immigration realist.

The Roman Catholic Church

For pro-alien lobbying, the Catholic church (in which I was raised) is by far the most the most visible and notorious of the three. And well it should be, with a flock of 68 million members. That total represents nearly 25 percent of the world’s Catholic population.

From the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic, Catholic immigration pandering has been non-stop for years. Even the relatively recent pedophilia scandals have barely slowed down Catholic immigration enthusiasm.

Over the last five years, Catholic Cardinals-most prominently Roger Cardinal Mahony, the Archbishop of Los Angeles-have urged support for amnesty and have argued passionately against immigration enforcement legislation.

Going one-step further to prove that no statement or action endorsing immigration is too outrageous, Mahony advocates violating federal law when and if enforcement measures are ever passed.

VDARE.COM writers have criticized Mahony with increasing disgust as his advocacy for illegal immigrants has intensified and his involvement in the pedophilia cover-ups have become more obvious.

But Mahony is far from the only Catholic Cardinal voice for aliens.

On the opposite coast, New York’s Cardinal Edward M Egan was out front and center (speaking Spanish, no less) at the Immigrant Workers’ Freedom Ride, an even orchestrated five years ago and organized by dozens of open borders subversives who predicted—100 percent incorrectly—that it would pressure Congress into passing an amnesty.

The Methodists

Numbering about 15 million, about a quarter of the Catholic flock, they’re fewer but equally determined.

In 2006, VDARE.COM contributor W. James Antle, III exposed the Methodists and their "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors" policy, a transparent, feel-good slogan that can be condensed to "Open Borders."

Including their "Global Ministries ", "Justice for Our Neighbors " and "Hope for Newcomers " programs, the Methodists’ commitment to mass immigration is impressive to many-but not to us.

The Lutherans

They don’t have as much muscle (only 8 million members) as either the Catholics or the Methodists, but they’re tireless fighters, especially on behalf of “refugees”. Our Thomas Allen has written extensively about the refugee racket here.

The Lutherans always have a new wrinkle. The latest is its New Sanctuary Movement described as "a national immigrants' rights initiative by conscientious congregations responding to unjust deportations…" and a force that "…addresses the legal liabilities of providing sanctuary to undocumented immigrants."

"Troubling" state and local laws aimed at immigration enforcement concern the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. To assist in law breaking, the LIRS has prepared a backgrounder, acknowledging and thanking "the National Immigration Forum, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the National Council of La Raza, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the National Immigration Law Center for sharing their resources."

I got a close look at the LIRS’s influence when I researched my column on the Somali Bantu invasion of tiny Cayce, South Carolina.

The local Lutheran coordinator for the Somalis, Rev. Richard Robinson, called the Bantus’ arrival "a blessing," even though few Cayce non-Lutherans agreed with him.

How much of a "blessing" LIRS-sponsored immigration may be depends on who you ask.

In 2004, James Fulford in his column linked the Lutherans, claiming to be "glorifying God’s name" and that "the love of God is in our hearts," to slavery and rape .[James Fulford writes: The actual acts of slavery and rape were, of course, committed by Albanian Gypsies -Lutherans aren't into that sort of thing .]

Comparing their relatively small numbers versus their influence on immigration policy in general and refugees in particular, I therefore announce my "pound for pound" top Treason Lobbyist...

THE LUTHERANS!

Battling individuals and organizations that allegedly follow the Bible’s word while doing "God’s work" is challenging. They purport to be on the high road while we the "nativists ," according to them, reject the Lord’s message.

But the Catholics, Methodists and Lutherans have distorted the truth to serve their own specific agenda—mainly money and more people in the pews.

The religious arguments center on how people of faith should treat the "sojourner," the catchall word they incorrectly use to represent today’s immigrants.

To learn more about their imprecise use of the Bible and its language—"the sojourner"—to beat back immigration reform patriots, I contacted Ed Childress, an ordained United Methodist elder and director of the Homeless Programs of Fauquier County, Virginia. I had worked with Childress when he was Deputy Director of NumbersUSA.

Childress (e-mail him) told me:

"I would emphasize again and again that ‘sojourner’ was a specific word for temporary wanderer, not meant to include immigrants. And the context of Biblical times, when ‘sojourner’ was used, was very different than today’s context. It’s appropriate that the citizens of a nation exercise oversight and stewardship of their national resources—and that includes their border."

Several years ago, Childress wrote an article for the Social Contract that included a five-point program on how to faithfully follow the Bible’s "true prescriptions" as they may relate to immigration. [The Sojourner Argument—Churches and Immigration, By Ed Childress, Social Contract, Spring 2001]

They are:

• Foreigners in this country should be accorded the respect and decency we owe to all people.

• People who are genuine refugees and cannot be cared for in proximity to their homes might be temporarily relocated to other countries. The U.S. would accept its fair share until they can safely return. Their temporary stay makes it possible for other refugees to "sojourn" here when necessary.

• Our ethic of caring requires we do what is necessary to help legal immigrants and legal residents to assimilate and function in U.S. society.

• Our ethic of caring requires that we not accept such a large number of annual immigrants that 1) Undermines the ability of workers to earn a decent living, 2) Harms the sustainability of the environment, and 3) Drains the best and brightest from their own nations where they can do the most good.

• We move away from an "America the Best" attitude and respect the future aspirations and identity of other nations.

The willingness—even eagerness—of the major religions to twist the Bible’s meaning shows that they, and not we, are the true immigration extremists.
