AFL-CIO Gearing Up to Go After McCain

One leg of the McCain Amnesty Axis (Big Union, Big Business, Big Religion) 3 legged stool of pandering to illegal aliens is gearing up to abandon him since the last two major amnesty attempts went down in flames. He no longer matters to them as they plan to have one of their own spearheading the next attempt at amnesty. The remaining two will not be able to pull his juevos out of the fire, and conservatives would just as soon see 'em hard boiled. It is soon to be the "Rock and Hard place" scenario John. Just how bad do you REALLY want it?

AFL-CIO Gearing Up to Go After McCain

WASHINGTON -- The AFL-CIO's leaders on Wednesday found a presidential candidate they can agree to focus on: Sen. John McCain.

The nation's largest labor federation announced at its executive council meeting in San Diego that it would continue to remain neutral in the Democratic race between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, but would begin training its political resources on McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee.

Political director Karen Ackerman said the opening salvo will be to link McCain to President Bush, who endorsed the Arizona senator on Wednesday.

McCain "voted for every free trade deal that exports jobs..."

Big Union remains viable by going after the members economic interests. Since NAFTA was implemented jobs have been fleeing the country, and the ones that satayed have been changing out US workers for h1-b visa low wage workers after the citizen trained his replacement. This will be their argument. It disregards that Slick Willy and Company was a fanatic NAFTA fan.

The 2007 Amnesty Year Review

2007 was the year when a powerfull axis of organizations joined to try to force amnesty for illegal aliens against the will of the citizens of the USA.

Cross posted from the Cox Newspaper 2007 Archives

Groups Join Forces on Immigration

By Eunice Moscoso | Thursday, January 18, 2007, 02:17 PM

Groups lobbying for changes in the nation’s immigration laws, including a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, have dubbed themselves the “Alliance for Immigration Reform 2007.” [aka "The Amnesty AXIS", "The AXIS of Evil", or just "The AXIS"]

The organizations, which announced their new name Thursday in a conference call with reporters, include the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic civil rights group; the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; the Service Employees International Union; the National Immigration Forum; and the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank based in New York.

“This is the year to get this done,” said Tamar Jacoby, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. “Everybody, no matter who they are, is sick of the illegality and the porous borders. Businesses are tired of lying to the government and having to break the law just to get the work done. Latinos want to see their friends and family able to work with dignity. And soccer moms and dads want to see Congress solve something.”

Bruce Josten, executive vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said he expected President Bush to address immigration in his State of the Union speech Tuesday.

“I have absolutley no doubt that he will raise this issue and he will press and stay on the message he has been on since a candidate for this office for a comprehensive solution to immigration,” Josten said.

White House spokesman Tony Snow confirmed the topic.

The speech “will address major issues, including the war on terror, energy, health care, immigration, and education,” he told reporters Thursday.

The AXIS: Despite the backing of the US Chamber of Commerce, the Bishops, Arch Bishops, and Cardinals of the American Catholic Church, Big Union (AFL-CIO represented by SEI), a putatively conservative think tank (Manhattan Institute), El Presidente Bush, the DNC including all but a bare handfull of Democrat senators, approximately half of the GOP senators (including Frist, the GOP senate majority leader), MoveOnKoSoroStryker (arguably this IS the true leadership of the DNC politburo), and the MSM which is always sympathetic to socialist/leftist causes, but especially for amnesty...

The Patriots: Patriotic Citizens of all political persuasions joined together to turn back the AXIS attempt to dissolve our national sovereignty that would have effectively thrown open our borders to tens of millions of newly arriving illegal aliens.

The amnesty attempts were formulated in secret with no involvement in legislative committees. La Raza and other amnesty pimps were allowed to give input as to the content of the first bill (S.1348) to be taken directly to the senate floor, where The AXIS thought they had enough votes to force it through.

A very smug George Bush said, "I'll see you at the signing!" [...instead he got bitch-slapped again, just like with Dubai Ports and Harriet Miers. This may explain why he had his pet prosecutor, Jonny Sutton, dump border guards in prison while using a Bush Cartel drug smuggler as witness in the star chamber trials.]

Can you imagine the expression on the face of El Presidente Bush when he found out that The PATRIOTS had been flooding their senators and congressmens phones, faxes, and emails with demands that this bad legislation be defeated... and it was.

The AXIS made another stealth attempt with a renumbered amnesty package (S.1639). They tried a tactic of making the legislators unavailable except through special hotlines to allow illegal aliens to call in, excluding The PATRIOTS. These numbers were made public and citizens started using them too. Once again, The Patriots prevailed over The AXIS.

The midterm elections in 2006 was a turning point. It turned the senate and house, starting in 2007, over to Democrats. The new majority was made possible by new Democrat candidates who ran on platforms that were, in most cases, more conservative than their opponents. Time will tell if this is true.

The AXIS was not through with their attempts though. Instead of the comprehensive, big package approach, they shifted gears and now are using the incremental approach of attaching small items to other unrelated legislation to slip it to us a little at a time. The DREAM act was such a piece of legislation.

The AXIS had one victory in December of 2007. The managed to defund and kill the border fence that was authorized in 2006. This is a reason that patriotic citizens must stand together.

[The "death by a thousand cuts" analogy has been made as relates to the slow infiltration, occupation, and take over of our southwestern states without a shot being fired except by criminal gangs of illegals. El Presidente Bush has no intention of enforcing immigration law strenuously during his tenure, so this will fall to whoever is elected as the next president. By that time it may be necessary to use military units to clean out and retake our territory from the occupying hoard while guarding the border against military incursions from the south.]

See: I am an American Citizen

Here is the page about the private hotlines for illegals to use to call in: Bush Listening

The Bush scandal that the MSM refused to cover, because it was a willing participant, is known as Bordergate. The MSM tried to fabricate out of whole air various things to use as a scandal for Bush, such as manufactured military records by CBS/Damn Rather, when they had everything they need, if they had not been so heavily involved themselves, via their political allegiance to the socialist Democrats who are also primo amnesty panderers.

In December 2007, Michigan AG Mike Cox issued his opinion (weight of law unless successfully challenged in court) that illegal aliens may not be issued Michigan drivers licenses, a reversal of the opinion of the Democrat former AG Frank Kelley. How this will affect the illegals already holding Michigan Drivers Licenses (and possibly voter registration cards) was not dealt with as far as I can ascertain. We may well face a certain number of illegal voters at the polls.

Independent Liberal Democrat and amnesty co-conspirator Senator Joe Lieberman endorsed John McCain for president.

Bush pardoned and commuted sentences of 105 criminals (fraud, robbery, drug smuggling, forgery, counterfeiting, car theft, income tax evasion, military AWOL, moonshining and bootlegging (illegal liquor), theft of US mail, illegal weapons) and no pardons or commutations for Ramos, Compean, or any of the other law men who were railroaded into prison by his pet prosecutor, Johnny Sutton. George did spring Scooter Libby (commuted not pardoned).

Michigan AG Cox on illegal alien drivers licenses

Mich. AG: Only legal residents can drive

By DAVID EGGERT AP Writer

LANSING, Mich.—Illegal immigrants are ineligible for driver's licenses, Michigan's attorney general said Thursday in an opinion that affects one of the few states that have been granting licenses to undocumented residents.

Attorney General Mike Cox's opinion is legally binding on state agencies and officers unless reversed by the courts. It was not immediately known how soon any changes would take place or what the opinion means for illegal immigrants with currently valid licenses.

Michigan law prohibits the secretary of state from issuing a driver's license to a nonresident. Cox, a Republican, said it would be inconsistent with federal law to regard an illegal immigrant as a permanent resident in Michigan.

The opinion supersedes a 1995 opinion by former Democratic Attorney General Frank Kelley.

Kelley suggested that denying a driver's license to an illegal immigrant might violate the U.S. Constitution's equal protection clause, according to Cox. But Cox said "there can be no doubt that a rational basis exists for denying driver's licenses to illegal aliens."

Cox cited national security concerns, but the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan contends his opinion could actually make the state less secure.

"It drives them further underground," ACLU executive director Kary Moss said of illegal immigrants. "If they have licenses, then the state knows about them and has information about them..." [Ahhh but you are wrong. The state doesn't have any info on their legal status as illegal aliens with the issuance of a drivers license. Giving them licenses gives them legal standing for services and priveleges they are not entitled to receive.]

===

My quest to get something done about the issuance of drivers licenses to illegals in Michigan finally bore fruit this week. It finally gained a critical mass.

But I find it inexplicable why the Michigan Attorney general waited until now to finally issue an opinion concerning the issue of drivers licenses to illegals. This week he openly made it official. He says that Michigan will NOT issue illegal aliens drivers licenses. How to verify and track this is the next question. Also the opinion is law until the ACLU or another communist organization challenges it in court and gets a sympathetic commie judge to rule their way. Illegals are still being issued licenses elswhere, so a license from there would have to be questioned as a possible fraud. The rub is that many states also use the drivers license as the prime ID for all sorts of other services and to register to vote. Since the Motor-Voter act was passed in Michigan and other states, the possibility of vote fraud is enormous. The Democrat leadership (along with La Raza, AFL-CIO, MoveOnKoSoros, US Chamber of Commerce, miscellaneous other appeasers and traitors, and the Bush Cartel) seek easy voter registration to allow illegals to vote. Money and Power! It is all tied to amnesty and converting illegals into legal residents.

Here are some links to read on the subject of drivers licenses for illegals:

Pete Roskam [IL-6] said "Issuing driver’s licenses to illegals allows states to subvert federal immigration laws."

He is right. We already know that there are sanctuary cities and defacto sanctuary states such as California that are actively subverting immigration laws with the blessing of the Bush Cartel in Washington D.C.

If that doesnt satisfy your urge to read on the subject, google "drivers licenses for illegal aliens". You will find approximately 920,000 hits to read.

Wake Up People - Mexico's economy depends on exporting low wage workers

GO to this link "Roy Beck talks about uncontrolled immigration" and watch the video, then return to this page and read this message below.

Wake up people or you will be the new minority in as short a period of time as 10 years. Your children and grandchildren will have to learn several languages to get by. English may be relegated to second-language status. Medical care as you know it now will be gone forever.

Amnesty for illegals is about to happen unless you let your representative in the House know in no uncertain terms that his time in office is over unless he protects you, your children, grand children, and heirs downline. Most senators are like Bush. They really do not give a damn what you think unless it is time to get a vote from you. For example: US Senator Debbie Stabenow [D-Mi] this last year in the midterm election voted against S.2611, lets see how she votes on S.1348. She voted for Social Security for illegals and then voted against S.2611 when she saw that it might hurt her re-election to vote for it.

George Bush no longer has to listen to US citizens. He is a lame duck in the last term of his presidency. He is virtually untouchable.

The ONLY thing that will get his attention is the real possibility of impeachment. Democrats will not do it because they now have someone who can be eventually bent to their will in the Oval Office. That he can be blamed for anything not politically correct is part of the equation. Last year there was serious talk of impeaching Bush from Democrats. Not now. They now consider him a usefull idiot. Besides he will help Dems gain a new temporary minority to represent. If any RINO thinks the legalized illegals will be Republican, they must be huffing glue.

As for policiy matters, Bush has Iraq/Afghanistan overseas. A necessary war that keeps Al Quaeda tied down there. He sends our troops over there and leaves our borders completely open here.

Then there is his domestic focus which does not include citizens. He is 100% behind amnesty and citizenship for illegal aliens. It doesnt matter that in 10 years there will be 100 million aliens pushing citizens out of the way as the citizens become the new minority. Opinions of citizens do not even register. Bush wants to dissolve our borders with Canada and Mexico and form one big North American Union, much like the European Union with new laws, courts and money. Obviously we do not count in this calculation. He wants increased immigration from other third world countries. We have to keep a ready supply of unskilled low wage laborers to be assured of a serf class. The American middle class will become part of his dream as he will be part of the ruling class.

Does this make you feel better about El Presidente Jorge Bush? The Democrats (at least their leadership) all figure on being somewhere in the ruling class too. The union workers will get the shaft as the low wage imports will screw them. Big Union figures that they will win regardless with a new underclass to represent. Big Business wins because of cheap labor. The Christian coalition has members of the Amnesty Axis because they think it is the Christian thing to do, by shredding the only safety net we have. Another analogy is to think of the USA as a lifeboat. It can carry a certain number of people. When you try to add more, it will capsize and all might drown. Think on it!

Only the citizens get screwed, no thank you, no reach around, no vaseline. And WE have to pay for the Bush grand amnesty dream!

GO to this page "Roy Beck talks about uncontrolled immigration" and watch the video. Then come back and re-read this.

The only real problem is that the video was made with the current existing immigration situation, not the one that Bush and Kennedy want to make into the new reality [infinitely worse]. Go watch the video NOW! Then contact your congressman!

UAW spurs another Michigan company business decision

from the Grand Rapids Press bird cage liner, page B5 In Brief

Foundry to close

Alpena, Michigan

Thunder Bay Manufacturing Corporation, a machine shop and foundry where UAW union workers have been on strike for the past week, says it will close its doors after nearly 90 years in business. "We can not compete in the current business climate" said Joanne Gallagher, president of Thunder Bay Corp..

[Note to UAW Union Workers: Thank the Democrats and Jennifer Granholm for the worst business climate and the one state recession. Democrats are still trying to figure out how to tax us back into prosperity. Though the company will deny it, your strike only made the closing inevitable. Are you feeling "The Power"?]

[note: The article was not quoted verbatim. Go get a copy of the fishwrapper and read it for yourself if you really like self abuse. The article was only a couple lines longer.]

Bush McCain Kennedy amnesty co-conspirators

The Iraq War as camoflage for Bush McCain Kennedy amnesty

The war against terror is a good and just cause but it is being used and perverted by politicians as cover for ulterior motives. The hand you see off to the right is wagging and waving like mad keeping you focused on the war while the left hand is busily inserting an amnesty knife in the back of working US citizen families. That is what the amnesty movement is, and it is aided and abetted by El Presidnte Jorge Bush, the MSM, Big Union (AFL-CIO), The US Chamber of Commerce, The Socialist Democrat Party, and certain members of the Republican Party. Believe it or not, out in California the Catholic Church has joined in on the side of the criminal left. With all this stacked against patriotic citizens, what are we to do? Become a Minutman. Stayed informed. Bombard your congressman with phone calls, letters, faxes, emails. Your congressman is most responsive to you because of his short term of office. It keeps him focused on his real constituents.

Have you noticed how both sides of the amnesty panderer's belly crawler brigade are using the Iraq War as cover while they quietly plot and scheme how to sneek past us with an amnesty package so rich in prizes for the current crop of illegals that millions more will be salivating for their turn to get into the US. The MSM acts as if Iraq is the be all and end all for our decision as to who will be our next president. Big Business represented by the US Chamber of Commerce wants millions more illegals to displace US citizens as a ready source of cheap labor. The AFL-CIO are Democrat drones in the new socialist reality and spout the party line which is amnesty. Our Republican leaders are balless wonders. We need someone who will protect our borders and sovereignty, here in the USA! Non existant borders are the current reality with Bush refusing to uphold current immigration law. The El Presidente uses trite mantra phrases like "It's not practical" and "...jobs citizens wont do!" as justification. [Elsewhere on this blog see The Republicrat Shamnesty Mantra]

Social Security and Totalization Agreements

I wrote a letter objecting to the Social Security Totalization Agreement to Senator Carl Levin and he wrote back explaining why it is good to be able to send billions of our Social Security money to Mexico. Carl is up for re-election in 2008 and this will be a nail in his re-election coffin. I have filed his letter as a reference. He supported it in his vote in the senate for social security for illegals and then in S.2611.

The USA currently sends billions and billions (with pronunciation like Carl Sagan - beeel-yuns and beeel-yuns) of Social Security funds to the following countries under totalization agreements [and you wonder why social security is going broke. They get theirs BEFORE you get yours!]:

From Senator Levin's letter the following already reap billions from totalization agreements:

  • Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United kingdom, and negotiations are underway with the Czech Republic and Denmark.

On June 29, 2004 a Bush team negotiated a Social Security giveaway totalization agreement with Mexico. It has not yet been transmitted to congress with a report.

On January 4, 2007, Republican Senator John Ensign introduced Senate Bill 43 (aka s.43) to change the way totalization agreements are approved.by requiring an affirmative vote by the Senate and House before an agreement can go into effect. S.43 is languishing in the Democrat controlled Senate Committee on Finance where it will probably die.

Immigration protests planned nationwide

cross posted at "No Amnesty - GOT IT?" blog

How did we sleep through the initial warnings of the Bush immigration insanity? The lefty MSM was sympathetic to this cause and made no noise. This is a cause near and dear to the socialist Democrats (AFL-CIO and all the allied fellow travellers). Even the national Chamber of Commerce is a supporter! Big Biz in bed with the communists...whoda ever thunk it possible? The greed factor is the decider for them. The American Catholic Church under the guidance of Cardinal Mahoney... no chastity from Roger in this case. Bush is the director [and a participant] of this x-rated daisy chain scenario.

They're at it again folks! The panderers will be belly crawling to the nearest illegal alien to lick boot leather. Cardinal Roger Mahoney in LA will be revving up the Catholic Church out there to act in "civil disobedience" urging people to disregard the law. We can expect Ted Kennedy to make an appearance as he did last year. Will Little Johnny McCain also show solidarity with his illegal constituency? How about Sam Brownback? We know he is a primo panderer! What about it Sam? Are you going to grow a pair or will you be the same old senate RINO panderer that you were last year? The illegals are feeling empowered by Bush/ Kennedy/ McCain/ Reid/ Pelosi and the new Democrat majorities in the House and Senate. They want to get this over now so they can vote in 2008 for the new El Presidente of Los Estados Unidos also. Here is the very latest news via Yahoo News.

As always Mr Phelps, Yahoo News has no permalinks and any link to a story from them will be worthless in 24 hours, so they will be disavowed.

Immigration protests planned nationwide

By PETER PRENGAMAN, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago [as of approximately 4:30 am edt May 1, 2007]

LOS ANGELES - Demonstrators demanding a path to citizenship for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants hope that nationwide marches will spur Congress to act before the looming presidential primaries take over the political landscape.

Marches, meetings and voter registration drives were planned Tuesday from California to New York, a year after 1 million flexed their economic muscle in a nationwide boycott during last year's May 1 activities.

Though this year's turnout will likely be lower, organizers say immigrants feel a sense of urgency to keep immigration reform from getting pushed to the back burner by the 2008 presidential elections.

"If we don't act, then both the Democratic and Republican parties can go back to their comfort zones and do nothing," said Angelica Salas, director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. "They won't have the courage to resolve a major situation for millions of people."

In Miami, Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean was scheduled to speak to a coalition of immigrant groups, while Ricardo Chavez, the brother of famed agricultural labor leader Cesar Chavez, was expected address crowds in Milwaukee.

In Washington, D.C., about 400 members of Asian groups from across the country were set to make a lobbying push with lawmakers. Students planned to march in Chicago.

In New York, groups are planning an "American Family Tree" rally, where immigrants will pin paper leaves on a large painting of a tree to symbolize the separation of families because of strict immigration laws.

The event is a response to a White House immigration reform proposal in March, said Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition.

The [Latest Amnesty] Plan

  • The [Bush/Kennedy/McCain] plan would grant illegal immigrants three-year work visas for $3,500 but also require them to return home to apply for U.S. residency and pay a $10,000 fine. It has been roundly criticized by immigrant groups.

Two large demonstrations were planned in Los Angeles County — home to an estimated 1 million illegal immigrants. Some groups in the area have called for an economic boycott and hoped for a repeat of last year, when thousands of immigrants and students stayed away from work and school in a sign of solidarity.

Other groups have rejected the boycott, arguing it puts immigrants' livelihoods at risk and deprives children of valuable classroom time.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Cardinal Roger Mahony, head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, both strong immigrant supporters, urged students to stay in school.

Despite divisions over tactics and other issues, immigration groups and supporters said the diverse events will show the movement is stronger than ever.

"Just because the 12 million people who don't have legal residency don't attend a march doesn't mean they don't want it," said Eduardo "Piolin" Sotelo, a popular Spanish-language disc jockey. "I tell my listeners that no matter what they do, just don't stop doing something."

After last year's protests, reform legislation stalled in Congress and bipartisan proposals for illegal immigrants to gain citizenship have gotten more conservative.

Organizers said Tuesday's turnout will be lower because stepped-up raids in recent months have left many immigrants afraid to speak out in public — a major change over rallies in 2006 when some illegal immigrants wore T-shirts saying "I'm illegal. So what?"

"These raids have torn apart families," said John Crockford, a member of the Central California Coalition for Immigrant Rights.

In Fresno, organizers planned a rally focusing on children whose parents had been deported. The San Joaquin Valley is home to thousands of seasonal workers who work illegally each year in the fields and construction industry.

In Los Angeles, marches were set to include demands for a legalization program, a stop to the raids and an anti- Iraq war message. City and transportation officials were planning for as many as 500,000 people in downtown, believing it could be the largest in the city so far this year.

[If we had a President who supported national security and rule of law, these protests would be the ideal place to make mass round-ups of illegals but there is a severe lack of juevos from El Presidente Jorge Bush. I would more expect him to make an appearance at one of the marches to show his support. This is the kind of closet worm he really is. Go ahead, Jorge. Make me take back my words by actually doing something to protect the US borders and sovereignty. I am renewing my call to start a fund to buy every legislator a pair of neuticals. They obviously are scrotally challenged.]

[update: the protests were much smaller than last year. Organizers pass this off as nervousness about border arrests of illegals and deportations. Lets see if Bush will grow or borrow a set of balls and actually start doing something about removing illegal aliens.]

Timeline 2007 (run-up to the election in 2008)

It is now in the front half of January 2007 and I am waiting to see if the Dems are going to follow through on their plan to start impeachment of El Presidente Jorge the Panderer. How about it, Congressman Conyers? If they really need a charge to bring against him they can use the fact that he has left the borders completely open in violation of his oath of affice. This is a homeland security issue. The Dems want to use Iraq as the issue, but I am not sure the people will allow it. The fact that Dems also want open borders will not matter because impeachment is political, not a legal procedure. At the grassroots level, conservatives are rooting for a method to remove Bush. Cheney could be the next president.

If impeachment does not get moving soon, I predict that there will be a new Amnesty package flowing out of the senate with the same or worse provisions that S.2611 had. The house should be no problem unless the Blue Dog Conservative Dems that were elected this past midterm election kick up a fuss. The AFL-CIO will make public noises against it while the leadership privately cheers it on as they have all along. The only thing that will change this is if union members real kick a fuss over illegals and "guest workers" (aka legalized illegals via amnesty). The members are beginning to recognize that illegals and imported "green card" aliens are taking jobs that US citizens WILL do. They are being used to reduce the wage base while displacing citizens at good paying jobs.

Bipartisanship (Republicans giving Democrats everything they want) will be the name of the game!

We will have MANY centrist moderate Republicans (Giuliani, Romney, et al) along with a host of senate RINOs looking for the Republican nomination. Conservatives will ignore all of them looking for a true conservative candidate. Tancredo is waiting to be drafted. Cox in Illinois is a dark horse but may be the one. Newt Gingrich is popular with conservatives. His infidelity problem that caused his resignation may still be a problem with the Christian conservative coalition. If he had been a Democrat, philandering would have been a definite plus. Eeney meeny miney mo...

Conservatives are looking for someone to introduce a NEW "Contract With America".

The MSM will continue its efforts to force feed McCain to the public as half of its dream ticket.

The timeline is a little fuzzy!

###

Over at the FullosseousFlaps Dental blog... I just found out that he isn't conservative. He has stacked a poll with moderates only and Flap is rooting for Rudy. On that poll among moderates, Mitt Romney is beating Giuliani. Mitt is going to have to come around a little more conservative on the immigration issue if he wants my vote!

Why is it so hard for these "good" Americans to understand that illegal aliens are not the brand of immigrant we are seeking?

Why are these "good" Americans trying to turn the USA into a welfare state?

A large number of the illegal aliens they so generously want to give citizenship come here only for the services we provide to citizens.

Citizens of the US are generous but we are not a world welfare agency.

Could the AFL-CIO be waking up on illegal immigration

from VDare.com...

Could the AFL-CIO be waking up on Immigration?

[Patrick Cleburne] @ 12:19 am [Email author[Email This Article] [Print This Article]

As Congress (unfortunately) reconvenes there has been a predictable procession of log-rolling stories in the MSM trying to create a bandwagon effect to support a new version of last year’s Kennedy-Bush Amnesty/Immigration Acceleration Bill. The standard tactic is to claim that victory is in the bag because of collusion between the White House, Senate Republicans and the Democratic leadership. And indeed, if the matter was entirely left to these elements, it might well be, even if the Democratic delegations as a whole are less certain.

But a new pothole may be developing on the road: the AFL-CIO. A commendably alert piece of reporting (Democrats’ ties to labor could complicate immigration reform - By Dave Montgomery The Mercury-News Sunday January 7 2007) relates that the disastrous guest worker concept in particular is in trouble:

the AFL-CIO is better positioned to confront a powerful coalition of business groups that is pressing for a temporary worker program to bring in thousands of foreign workers each year… AFL-CIO officials say the program is designed to give business a steady source of cheap labor and would take jobs from U.S. citizens.
“We don’t believe our elected representatives are ready to adopt legislation that creates paths for corporations to import workers (and) reduce working standards in the United States,” said Ana Avendando, associate general counsel for the AFL-CIO. “That’s exactly what guest worker programs are.

(VDARE.com emphasis)

From the point of view of the American unionized worker, the current managing bureaucracy at the AFL-CIO, which has been in place a long time, should all be fired. They have stood by virtually silent while Washington, bought by employer interests, has launched the most brutal attack on the living standards of their members and workers in this country generally since the Great Depression. That has been the effect of the failure to stem the influx of low-skilled labor since the 90s. It is all documented in Ed Rubenstein’s VDARE.com archive. Any union officer not familiar with this data needs different employment.

Some Union leaders, indeed, have abandoned their constituents, seeking a new “electorate” amongst the newcomers. This is a direct betrayal of the Gompers tradition.

But Union bureaucrats, at the end of the day, are, like Congressman and Senators, politicians needing re-election. Indeed, they may be more responsive to their members whose numbers and income level affects their life style directly. Up till recently, most AFL-CIO comment on the debate has been simplistic support of the Democratic national leadership, with some distressing signs of excessive influence by ethnic lobbies. Now, perhaps, the Grass Roots are having some input (see, for instance, this sensible piece from their website on importing nurses).

The AFL-CIO website is notably reticent about contact details. However, Union members in particular amongst VDARE.COM readers (we know there are a lot) should invest a few minutes in sending the AFL-CIO their views. Applaud the essay on Nurse importation, and ask for more.

[ed: I spent 31 years in a union. The leadership was solidly of the yellow dog Democrat persuasion and followed the party line. When the party yelled jump, the union bosses asked how high. They were not totally successfull in getting the membership to make the jump though there were enough that they kept control. There were not enough of us to be effective in making changes from within. I wonder if the members will allow their unions to stay in thrall to the cabal that wants to import millions of low wage workers to displace them and other workers. If the low wage aliens displace workers in non-union jobs, the unionized workers will still be adversely affected. If they can not see this then they deserve to lose their jobs. I think that finally Debbie Stabenow is getting this message, but Karl Levin does not. To make any changes in Big Union, the members are going to have to throw out the entrenched hard left leaders who want illegals and "guest workers" at any cost. Once a change in union leaders has been made, it will ripple upward to elected Democrat legislators.]
